Global village is like a carnival which held annually during the month of October to March. The operation time is from 4.30 pm to midnight. Generally, the carnival is divide into 3 areas- fun fair, food court and pavillions represent a lot of countries in the world (eg: greece, thailand, africa). In this pavillion, we can buy things that represent the country, enjoy the food and be entertained by the cultural performance. They sell a lot of interesting items at the price you can bargain. For Global Village 2012 there are more than 70 countries participates for the pavillions. There are also main stage and area at the entrance gate for the performance. The entrance ticket is aed10 per person. There are facilities provided such as toilets, prayer room, baby changing, trolleys, baby cart, mini train and a lot of parking spaces.
The place is very far from my home and there is no nearest metro station to this place. Thus, we took a taxi that costed us around Aed50 single trip. I have been to this Global Village for 2 times on October and December. However, I still did not visit all the pavillions thoroughly because the area is too big and my son and I already tired and sleepy. My first visit was on weekend night and my second visit was on weekdays night, still there were a lot of people. Furthermore, from what I heard from friends there are still a lot of people from Dubai and other places going to Global Village until today.
I had opportunity to try the giant wheel (ferris wheel). This is my first time on this kind of wheel. The price is aed35 per person (if not mistaken). Besides, we also bought honey from Yemen pavillion, raggae cap and toy from Africa pavillion, leather jacket and shoes from Pakistan pavilion and Tomyum from Thailand pavilion.
In conclusion, Global Village is the place you must go if you were in Dubai during October to March. Don't forget to bring extra cash because you will never know what might interested you to bring home.
*** There was a terrified incident happened early this year at the global village funfair. A man who was stand nearby the wheel die because of the steel falling from the ferris wheel (the one I rode) and hit his head. 3 maintenance workers already nabbed.
